January 2014

Thank you to everyone who responded to the questionnaire about the use of broadband in the village. Impressively, over 53% of the residential addresses contacted responded, and all supported the campaign. We also received support from several local small business premises.

If you haven't already responded and could help us reach our 60% target please complete the form this week - www.hessay.org/broadband.htm

The Parish Council has drafted a letter to Superfast North Yorkshire and its partner organisations asking for a justification for leaving Hessay out of the original upgrade programme and seeking reassurance that we will be upgraded during the next phase. The feedback that we received from you has really helped us illustrate why Hessay should not be left without superfast broadband.

Le Grand Départ

There was also a big response to the survey about a village event in Hessay to celebrate the Tour de France sweeping past in July. To find out more about the survey results and keep in touch with plans for the event please visit their page on the village website:

Parish Land

Over the Christmas break a significant amount of work was undertaken in Willow Garth, opposite Hessay pond. One third of the small bushes were coppiced; dead and leaning trees were removed and the wood used to create log piles; the shallow ponds were scraped to deepen sections of them. Many thanks to Andrew, Mark and Roger for their hard work.

The Parish Council would also like to thank Jack Holiday who recently refurbished the seat by the pond and Stuart Cariss who has maintained the pond area throughout the year.

Rural West Ward Boundary

The Rural West ward boundary is changing. The ward will no longer include Copmanthorpe, but will instead include Skelton. Our local councillor representation is unaffected. More information for those interested can be found here:

Next Meeting

The Parish Council will meet next on Wednesday 12th March 2014 at 7.30pm in the Methodist Chapel Schoolroom.
